2021 Cybersecurity Resources Part 1: Cybersecurity Podcasts

I’m often asked, “Which cybersecurity podcasts do you listen to?” My answer is usually some form of, “How much time do you have?” In this post, I’ll highlight some of the best cybersecurity podcasts of 2021 in a few different categories. The list is by no means exhaustive, so if I’ve missed any cybersecurity podcasts that should be included, please let me know

    Cybersecurity News Podcasts

The following podcasts are focused on cybersecurity news coverage.

    Unsupervised Learning with Daniel Miessler

Description: Exploring the intersection of security, technology, and society — and what might be coming next.

Frequency: A new episode every Monday morning.

    Recent Episode:

    Pair With:
Strong coffee or Monster Energy Drink. I’ve been listening to Daniel’s podcast for a very long time, and it balances between news, analysis, and opinion. Daniel is like the smartest guy you know riding shotgun next to you while carpooling to the same office park. You know you’re going to be more informed when you park the car, and you never have to worry about coming up with small talk.
    The Cyberwire Daily

Description: The daily cybersecurity news and analysis industry leaders depend on. Published each weekday, the program also included interviews with a wide spectrum of experts from industry, academia, and research organizations all over the world.

    Recent Episode:

    Frequency: Every weekday

    Pair With:
Pinot noir from Trader Joe’s. Sophisticated and nuanced, yet approachable. Listen more than twice, and you’ll find yourself unconsciously reading articles in Dave Bittner’s voice. You’ve been warned.

    Cyber by Vice

Description: Hacking. Hackers. Disinformation campaigns. Encryption. The Cyber. This stuff gets complicated really fast, but Motherboard spends its time embedded in the infosec world so you don't have to. Host Ben Makuch talks every week to Motherboard reporters Lorenzo Franceschi-Bicchierai and Joseph Cox about the stories they're breaking and to the industry's most famous hackers and researchers about the biggest news in cybersecurity.

Coke Zero. You feel good about consuming it because you enjoy it and know it’s good for you not bad for you.

    Smashing Security

Description: A helpful and hilarious take on the week's tech SNAFUs. Computer security industry veterans Graham Cluley and Carole Theriault chat with guests about cybercrime, hacking, and online privacy. It's not your typical cybersecurity podcast...

    Recent Episode:

Pita Chips and Hummus. Partially because I didn’t want to do the obvious UK trope, partially because I’m trying to think of something that won’t ruin everything on your desk when you start laughing.

    Cybersecurity Interview Podcasts

Cybersecurity podcasts that highlight guests, focus on personal stories, and go in-depth.

    Hacker Valley Studio

The chef’s recommendation at Blue Hill Farm. The beauty of HVS is the fact that whatever you’re expecting isn’t all you get. Sure, you can order from the menu from anywhere else, but it’s the story behind the meal that makes it memorable.

    Cloud Security Podcast

Description: Weekly LIVE Interviews with Cloud Security Leaders and Practitioners from around the globe.

Italian table wine and your grandmother’s famous meatballs. Picture this: two groups that don’t always see eye to eye, having a sit-down brokered by a trusted, objective, neutral consigliere. The secret recipe passed down through generations hits the table and the friction melts away while the host points out the fact that the CISO side of the table has more in common with the vendor side than they realize.
