How Gigamon Unlocked AWS Visibility with Axonius

As Gigamon scaled its mission to deliver deep observability across the world’s most complex networks, its internal security team faced a difficult challenge: a lack of clear, real-time insight into its own rapidly growing cloud infrastructure, especially within AWS. This is the story of how Chief Security Officer Chaim Mazal turned that challenge into a strategic advantage by deploying Axonius to unify visibility, eliminate blind spots, and drive smarter decisions across hybrid environments.

Key Challenges

  • Lack of visibility into AWS cloud assets

  • Fragmented data and silos

  • Unclear tooling coverage

  • Difficulty correlating vulnerabilities

  • Scaling complexity

  • Risk of wasted resources

INTRODUCTION

Gigamon was born to solve complexity. Its deep observability pipeline powers secure, real-time traffic insights for organizations navigating the chaos of modern networks. But inside its own growing operations, Gigamon’s security team ran into a familiar problem: a lack of visibility, especially across its AWS cloud environments.

As Chief Security Officer Chaim Mazal puts it, “Having real-time clarity into our environments as we continue to build out our products was essential, and Axonius helps us achieve this.”

Mazal needed a way to unify the view across SaaS, on-prem, and—most importantly—AWS infrastructure. The goal wasn’t just better security. It was enabling fast, confident decisions at scale.

We decided to work with Axonius because we thought it was solving a very real and complex challenge that every single security practitioner faces today.

PREVIOUS SITUATION

Gigamon’s security team had visibility into SaaS apps, but everything beyond that, particularly cloud assets, was murky. While AWS powered key services and innovation, Mazal’s team couldn’t easily correlate data from cloud workloads, identity systems, and security tools like Amazon GuardDuty. Context was fragmented. Tooling coverage was unclear. Without a centralized, real-time picture, security decisions were made with incomplete information. Redundancies stayed hidden. And leadership lacked the confidence that their growing cloud infrastructure was truly under control.

Mazal’s vision was simple but critical: unify the view of all assets, connect the dots across environments, and reduce the friction that slows down innovation. But existing tools weren’t built for the scale or complexity Gigamon had to manage.

Insecurity thrives in ambiguity, and without visibility, you can’t lead with confidence.

Challenges

As Gigamon accelerated its cloud-first roadmap, the stakes grew. Assets multiplied. New accounts and services were spun up rapidly. But each new addition widened the gap in visibility. The security team couldn’t answer fundamental questions:

  • Which AWS assets are at risk?

  • What vulnerabilities has GuardDuty flagged across environments?

  • Are security tools consistently deployed across instances?

  • What are we missing that could be exploited?

“We needed to know what tooling was present and what wasn’t—across all cloud environments,” Mazal says. “That’s how you reduce risk and move fast.”

The inability to unify data with other systems created cascading risks:

  • Security tools weren’t evenly deployed

  • Vulnerability findings were difficult to correlate

  • Data remained in silos, making it hard to identify coverage gaps

  • Proving value and control to leadership became a challenge

Mazal knew that if visibility into assets continued to lag behind, Gigamon could miss critical exposures, or waste time and resources chasing false alarms.

“We decided to work with Axonius because we thought it was solving a very real and complex challenge that every single security practitioner faces today,” Mazal says. “That’s being able to have insight into your organization’s growth as you continue to fulfill the requirements and needs of your customers.”

CONSEQUENCES

Mazal knew the risks of inaction weren’t theoretical, they were immediate and tangible. If they couldn’t map their environment in real time, they’d fall behind on threat response, risk management, and even financial oversight. A single missed vulnerability could compromise sensitive systems. A lack of clarity in tooling could mean wasted budget and lost board confidence. And without executive-level insight, strategic conversations remained incomplete. Without an integrated view of their environment:

  • Key risks could go unnoticed until too late

  • Leadership decisions would be delayed—or made blindly

  • Innovation velocity could be compromised by uncertainty

  • The organization might lose trust in its own security posture

We’ve been able to have conversations at the leadership level about how we want to proceed strategically as an organization, closing the gap between the security team and the executive board has been one of the biggest benefits of using Axonius.

SOLUTIONS

Gigamon deployed the Axonius Cybersecurity Asset Management Platform, with a specific focus on AWS visibility and integration.

Axonius made it possible to:

  • Combine asset data from AWS services with insights from other environments

  • Automatically ingest vulnerability findings from Amazon GuardDuty

  • Unify real-time views of EC2 instances, S3 buckets, IAM roles, and more

  • Identify security tooling coverage across AWS and flag gaps

  • Correlate cloud infrastructure with identities, devices, and software

  • Create dynamic dashboards that provide actionable insights across stakeholders

“Axonius gives us a clear picture of how much coverage for security tooling exists across various environments, including systems on-premises and across different cloud providers,” Mazal says.

Axonius’s out-of-the-box AWS adapters helped the security team track agent health, spot unprotected assets, and map every cloud instance to ownership and context. Data from Amazon GuardDuty was no longer a silo, it was a strategic asset.

With this new level of control, something else happened: momentum. Within just three months, Gigamon achieved full visibility into its threat landscape. Projects accelerated. Risks were addressed before they escalated, and executive conversations turned from reactive to strategic.

“We can now see the security tooling that’s deployed and vulnerabilities that potentially exist,” Mazal says. “Being able to make proactive decisions to reduce risk in real time has been instrumental for us.”

RESULTS

By making visibility central to its Axonius deployment, Gigamon unlocked measurable benefits:

  • Clear visibility into tooling coverage gaps across AWS and other instances

  • Real-time asset inventory with full context across hybrid environments

  • Streamlined integration of GuardDuty findings with other security data

  • Improved strategic decision-making by correlating risks with business context

  • Accelerated time to visibility: full threat landscape view in <3 months

  • Reduced cloud asset redundancies and licensing inefficiencies

  • Unified reporting and dashboards shared with leadership
